Come celebrate our 50th Anniversary! North Carolina Outward Bound School (NCOBS) is hosting a half century bike ride in honor of Collier Lilly. In 2017 we are riding our 50 miles for 50 years of impact from NCOBS. The ride offers a beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain route, the 50 mile half century with 3,600 feet of climbing, that will start and end at the Wedge Brewery's new location in Asheville. In keeping with Outward Bound’s bedrock principles of “challenge and discovery,” the Collier Lilly Ride for NCOBS will take riders over challenging mountain passes and allow them to discover scenic roads for the first time. This exciting event is being held on Memorial Day Weekend and in conjunction with the ever popular Mountain Sports Festival.

Since 2003 thousands of riders have participated in the Collier Lilly Ride, an annual recreational bike ride honoring the memory of Collier Cobb Lilly, a graduate of the North Carolina Outward Bound School (NCOBS). 2015 marked the ride’s move from the “flat country” surrounding Davidson, NC to the rugged mountains around Asheville, where NCOBS is based. The proceeds from this year’s event will fund scholarships for Western North Carolina youth to attend a life-changing NCOBS wilderness course. North Carolina Outward Bound School is the leading provider of experiential and outdoor education programs for youth and adults. Outward Bound has helped people discover strength of character, an ability to lead, and desire to serve.

Lyric concert at Wedge at Foundation

When words fail, LYRIC sings.

With an enlightened mixture of pop, soul, and FUNK; LYRIC awakens an undiscovered spirit within their audience. Described by many as the best band in Asheville, LYRIC delights crowds across the region.

“Whew, lordy people, if you haven’t heard of or heard Lyric, you simply must give yourself the gift."
~Peggy Ratusz

Primarily influenced by Prince, Tracy Chapman, India Arie, and George Clinton, Leeda "Lyric" Jones has a voice all her own. As the frontwoman, Leeda enlivens her followers with her melodic poetry and soulful voice.

“Lyric is a group made up of natural talents that will take you to a place you can’t forget, a group that uses music as an expression of pain, joys, and hope."
~Ben Scales, Montford Festival Co-Director

LYRIC formed in 2009 as a combination of the musical talents of Leeda Jones, William "dominion" Wynn, Dave Matthews, George Scott, and Mike Berlin. From humble beginnings as street musicians, LYRIC quickly brought large crowds together to form a following. The streets are where they thrive. LYRIC believes it has made them better musicians by teaching them to constantly adapt to various crowds. Leeda; lead singer, guitarist, and lyricist plays a funky rhythm guitar with sizzling leads accompanied by her soul gripping lead vocals. Her father, Dave Matthews, has roots in 70's funk style slap bass and holds down the foundation with a playful flare on funk. Mike Berlin locks down the beat on drums, with influences from his hometown of South Baton Rouge, New Orleans. He plays with lock-tight precision along with Dave on bass and brings a saucy Louisiana backbeat to the mix. Mike and George are long time friends that have played together on previous projects. From his bluesy piano licks to his soulful organ sound, George is definitely a fan favorite. Not to mention his firey synth sounds!

The band put out an EP called Perspective in December 2015 and are working to put out new music in 2017. Opening for Grammy winner Mavis Staples was one of their biggest accomplishments for 2016. LYRIC is excited about continuing to pursue the festival circuit. To find out more about upcoming shows, follow LYRIC on Facebook (, and check out their website at

"I am so honored, yet humbled that people really do appreciate what we do. We pride ourselves on always remaining humble and we are thankful for the opportunity to do what we love to do."

Burners, BBQ, & Beer

On Saturday May 20th we invite you to come be part of the action while the Burners of Foundy St. make magic happen again. This year we will have a variety of food, and beer from the Wedge in addition to the art to round out the day. Here is the first way you can help support this: A note from our organizing muralist.

A warm hello to all our sweet art supporters!
Burners and BBQ mural event is headed into it's fourth year and we need your support to make it possible. We have a great spot right on Foundy St. that will really help to tie the area together. Our dates are May 19th, 20th, and the 21st. We have had some great folks step up to help out this year in other ways but we cannot pull it off without the continued support through donations and sharing that has made this event a success each year. So please donate what you can to our colorful cause, and share this with all your friends so we can reach our goal. Thank you! Thank you!

The second way is to mark your calendar! This is gonna be a great family friendly event. Proceeds will support our muralists and creative young minds of the Western Region North Carolina Odyssey of the Mind.
